PGC 59804 (= PGC 59864, and with PGC 59862 = Arp 32)
A 14th-magnitude spiral galaxy (type SBm pec) in Draco (RA 17 13 07, Dec +59 19 24)One of a pair of interacting galaxies (with PGC 59862), collectively known as Arp 32, an S- or Integral-sign shaped spiral galaxy. That classification was an error caused by the two galaxies appearing as if a single galaxy on Arp's plate. However, they are still an interesting pair, as shown in the images below. Based on a recessional velocity of 1170 km/sec, about 50 million light years away. Given that and an apparent size of 1.3 by 0.45 arcmin, PGC 59804 is about 20 thousand light years across. |

PGC 59862 (with PGC 59804 = Arp 32)
A 15th-magnitude spiral galaxy (type IB) in Draco (RA 17 13 10, Dec +59 19 56)One of a pair of interacting galaxies (with PGC 59804, which see for images of the pair), collectively known as Arp 32, an S- or Integral-sign shaped spiral galaxy. That classification was an error caused by the two galaxies appearing as if a single galaxy on Arp's plate. However, they are still an interesting pair. Based on a recessional velocity of 1155 km/sec, PGC 59862 is about 50 million light years away. Given that and an apparent size of 1.05 by 0.45 arcmin, it is about 15 thousand light years across. |
